Originally written for two guitars, trumpet, sax, bass, and drums. A John Coltrane’s Giant Steps or Countdown type of melody meets Return to Forever. We were really going for an early 70’s fusion thing with it and trying to get a live feeling. I really love things that are precise alongside things that feel spontaneous, my favorite rock records are always the live recordings, I love the exchange of musicians pushing on the boundaries of things with an audience. It’s exciting to me and because it’s imprecise musical things can happen in those spaces that can’t happen in the studio, but having the two overlap at the same time feels like magic to me. I had a really fun time orchestrating the guitar parts and trying to get the B sections to feel like a mutant horn section.
